Storm Bonnie Almost Destroyed Bike Week, Fast Cash is gone!!!
Myrtle Beach has had it share of Black Bike week events and Hurricanes, but never at the same time. Even though Bonnie was down graded to a topical depression. She seemed to have had a damping effect on the Atlantic Beach bike fest.
Bonnie produced rain, strong winds and rip currents that made it impossible Saturday for beach goes and bikers to enjoy their long holiday weekend vacation. The roadways were too wet for the bikes ,no spectators were posted on the streets to see them. The Atlantic Beach Bike fest is known an out door event. The weather plays a big role in the success of the event.
Myrtle Beach has been trying to dismantle Atlantic Beach Bike fest for years.
Bonnie may have done in a single day what, Myrtle Beach leaders have been trying to do for years. Bad weather and the traffic loop has changed a lot of festival goers mind about returning to Myrtle Beach. The fast cash the hotel owner earned because of this festival will dwindle because the average vacationer won’t pay those ridiculous rates. The bike fest brought in people from as near a Wilmington, North Carolina to as far a Wilmington, Delaware.
Bonnie came dumped all her tears in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, the biggest day of the festival. Many locals were relieved to see less visitors this year. Saturday is the day that most day visitors come down for the festal. This year there was less traffic than usual. In past years traffic would be back up from 82nd Ave N to 31st Ave S. with one lane of traffic open to entrance of Atlantic Beach. 2016 Bonnie cleared the highways. Many party goers stay inside to keep dry. The beaches were empty. With the increase presence of law enforcement this year, Bonnie cause a decease in the amount of fines and arrest.
Restaurants and Bars never see much revenue from Memorial week anyway because most vendors are set up outside. This is the rain brought the crowds inside. The weather gave people time to think that maybe with out the bike and car show Myrtle Beach really doesn’t have much to offer, maybe their quick cash can be better spent else where. Bonnie came with rain and wind, leaving the street of Myrtle Beach quite for Memorial Day Weekend.
